Pentecost Speech

Today is the Festival of Pentecost. This day has so much meaning and significance to it. This day originated with the giving of the law to Moses by God on Mount Sinai. Every year after this day was celebrated as a memorial of that day. The God of heaven revealed and reestablished his law to the lost Israelites who had been enslaved in Egypt for so long. But as we know, the day also was a shadow of a future fulfillment. The law of God was to one day be written on our hearts by the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. The 1st Pentecost after Christ's death, God poured out his Holy Spirit on mankind with the purpose of building his church. From that day the church began to grow and prosper. It will continue until Jesus comes to sit on his throne. Since that day, the new covenant Pentecost has now become a memorial for the pouring out of the Holy Spirit on all mankind that put their faith in Jesus. This was a very significant day that jumpstarted the building of Christ's church.

What many people do not realize is that there is yet still a future fulfillment of this day. God is a farmer and harvester of his people. The feasts of God are depicted by 3 harvest seasons. Harvests represent resurrections to new life. As the sheaf of firstfruits Jesus resurrected from the dead to eternal life as the firstborn from the dead. This occurred in the spring harvest season of Passover and Unleavened Bread. The summer harvest season is Pentecost. This harvest represents the firstfruits of God that are harvested after that of Christ. When does this occur? It happens at the 1st resurrection at the return of Christ. This kick starts the millennial reign of Christ for a 1000 years. The rest of mankind will be resurrected in the fall harvest in a much bigger second resurrection at the end of the millennial reign of Christ. We should all strive to be apart of this 1st resurrection to reign with Christ in his Kingdom. So every year on the Festival of Pentecost we look backward as memorials of the giving of the law and the outpouring of the Holy Spirit. We also look forward to being apart of the firstfruits of God in the 1st resurrection.
