Daniel 9 - The 70 Weeks Prophecy

So much confusion rests simply on the false interpretation of a single prophecy in Daniel 9. It is commonly assumed that there will be a 7 year period at the end times called the The Great Tribulation. Huge debates regarding when the rapture occurs within this 7 years are on going. Pre trib, Mid trib, and Post tribulation are your choices. But what's not a choice is to acknowledge that the prophecy nor anywhere else in scripture is there ever any mention of a 7 year great tribulation. What's also not a choice is to naturally assume that the 70 weeks doesn't have a gap of over 2000 years between the 69th and 70th week without any biblical backing to substantiate such an assumption. This prophecy in Daniel 9 is key. It is called the 70 weeks prophecy. It was fulfilled on time by the promised Messiah.

Why is this so important to get right? Because the enemy wants to deceive you. Instead of understanding how this prophecy has already been fulfilled and how miraculous it is for the Bible to predict events 500 plus years in advance, the enemy instead uses this prophecy to push another agenda. The Jesuit false prophecy teaching of the futurist view where all prophecy isn't fulfilled until the end times, shades the Popes of Rome as the Antichrist and it shades the Jesuit General as the False Prophet.

Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people and upon thy holy city, to finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most Holy. Daniel 9:24
70 weeks equals 490 days, which equals 490 prophetic years. The people and the city are the Jews and Jerusalem. Jesus is the most Holy that will be anointed and make an end to sin by his death on the cross.

Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem unto the Messiah the Prince shall be seven weeks, and threescore and two weeks: the street shall be built again, and the wall, even in troublous times. Daniel 9:25
The commandment to rebuild the temple was made in 457 bc. Messiah the Prince is Jesus. 7 weeks equals 49 years. Threescore and 2 weeks equals 62 weeks or 434 years. A total of 69 out of the 70 weeks or 483 out of 490 years. The last week, or last 7 years, is where the 7 year tribulation period is derived from. But as we will see, this is not an end time prophecy, but a prophecy concerning the coming Messiah.

And after threescore and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off, but not for himself: and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; and the end thereof shall be with a flood, and unto the end of the war desolations are determined. Daniel 9:26
Being "cut off" is Jesus dying on the cross. Not for himself, but for the sins of the world. The people of the prince is the Roman army that will come destroy the city and sanctuary in 70 ad.

And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate. Dan. 9:27
Confirming the covenant with many is Jesus ratifying the new covenant with his shed blood for the people of the world. The sacrifices and oblations to cease in the midst of the week is referencing Christ's death 3.5 years into the final 7 year week.

There is no one man antichrist in this prophecy with a peace treaty with the modern nation of Israel. There is no 7 year tribulation period. And this prophecy is not speaking about the end times. If people would just read their Bibles they can see that MANY of the false prophecy teachings of the end times are all based on a false assumption that has no basis. CRAZY!
