Daniel 2 - The Statue

King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon had a troubling dream that none of his magicians could tell him of it or interpret it for him. But God revealed the mystery to Daniel in a dream so that he could interpret it for the king. The dream went like this...

“Your Majesty looked, and there before you stood a large statue—an enormous, dazzling statue, awesome in appearance. The head of the statue was made of pure gold, its chest and arms of silver, its belly and thighs of bronze, its legs of iron, its feet partly of iron and partly of baked clay. While you were watching, a rock was cut out, but not by human hands. It struck the statue on its feet of iron and clay and smashed them. Then the iron, the clay, the bronze, the silver and the gold were all broken to pieces and became like chaff on a threshing floor in the summer. The wind swept them away without leaving a trace. But the rock that struck the statue became a huge mountain and filled the whole earth. Daniel 2:31-35

“This was the dream, and now we will interpret it to the king. Your Majesty, you are the king of kings. The God of heaven has given you dominion and power and might and glory; in your hands he has placed all mankind and the beasts of the field and the birds in the sky. Wherever they live, he has made you ruler over them all. You are that head of gold. “After you, another kingdom will arise, inferior to yours. Next, a third kingdom, one of bronze, will rule over the whole earth. Finally, there will be a fourth kingdom, strong as iron—for iron breaks and smashes everything—and as iron breaks things to pieces, so it will crush and break all the others. Just as you saw that the feet and toes were partly of baked clay and partly of iron, so this will be a divided kingdom; yet it will have some of the strength of iron in it, even as you saw iron mixed with clay. As the toes were partly iron and partly clay, so this kingdom will be partly strong and partly brittle. And just as you saw the iron mixed with baked clay, so the people will be a mixture and will not remain united, any more than iron mixes with clay. “In the time of those kings, the God of heaven will set up a kingdom that will never be destroyed, nor will it be left to another people. It will crush all those kingdoms and bring them to an end, but it will itself endure forever. This is the meaning of the vision of the rock cut out of a mountain, but not by human hands—a rock that broke the iron, the bronze, the clay, the silver and the gold to pieces. “The great God has shown the king what will take place in the future. The dream is true and its interpretation is trustworthy.” Daniel 2:36-45

God interprets the start of this vision by telling king Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon that his kingdom represents the head of gold. This vision describes the rest of human history following the Israelite's captivity. It describes a succession of kingdoms all the way to the end time of Christ’s return. In the end, Christ and his saints destroy the image and establish the kingdom of God on earth forever.

Daniel 2 Statue

1)    Head of Gold = Babylon/King Nebuchadnezzar - Dan. 2:37-38

2)    Chest & Arms of Silver = Media-Persia - This is confirmed by not only secular history, but also by harmonizing the prophecies of Daniel 7 and 8.

3)    Belly & Thighs of Bronze = Greece - This is also confirmed by not only secular history, but also by harmonizing the prophecies of Daniel 7 and 8.

4)    Legs of Iron = Rome - The Bible doesn't specifically mention Rome as the legs of iron, but it is easily the ONLY kingdom that fits all the puzzle pieces given to us all throughout the books of Daniel, Revelation, and the rest of scriptures.God gave us the majority of these puzzle pieces so that we may use them as clues to figure out the rest of the pieces to the puzzle. Rome conquered the Greece empire as succeeded them as the next kingdom.

5)    Feet of Iron/Clay = divided Roman Empire into 10 kingdoms/divisions/horns - We know that the Iron represents Rome. The clay represents Islam. Islam was created by Rome as a military arm. But the Arabs have not been easily controlled and they have fought many battles against each other.

6)    Rock that destroys Statue = Jesus establishes his kingdom on earth in the 1st century - Dan. 2:44-45 - From the days of Jesus to the destruction of Jerusalem, all the old covenant types had been replaced. Jesus is now the high priest replacing the priesthood. Jesus is now the perfect eternal sacrifice replacing the animal sacrificial system. Christians are now the temple in which God dwells replacing the physical temple that was destroyed along with Jerusalem in 70ad. Jesus is the cornerstone and the believers are the stones that make up the body of Christ. The kingdom was set up in the 1st century during the days of those kings, but Satan's kingdoms still rule at this time. Jesus ascended to Heaven. When he returns he will will be king and the saints will be rulers along side him in the Kingdom of God. And all Satan's kingdoms will be destroyed.
