Come Out Of False Religion

Then I heard another voice from heaven say: “ ‘Come out of her, my people,’ so that you will not share in her sins, so that you will not receive any of her plagues; Rev.18:4

God always calls his people out to a place of safety while he warns of destruction and judgment. God is calling us out of Babylon today before his wrath falls on it so that we will be spared her judgment. But who is Babylon that we are to come out of?

There I saw a woman sitting on a scarlet beast that was covered with blasphemous names and had seven heads and ten horns. The woman was dressed in purple and scarlet, and was glittering with gold, precious stones and pearls. She held a golden cup in her hand, filled with abominable things and the filth of her adulteries. The name written on her forehead was a mystery: BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF PROSTITUTES, AND OF THE ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH. I saw that the woman was drunk with the blood of God’s holy people, the blood of those who bore testimony to Jesus. Rev. 17:3-6

If you have read my page The 1st Beast Out Of The Sea, The Little Horn, & The Prostitute, we see that Babylon is Roman Catholicism and her harlot daughter churches. Hopefully you have also already read my page The Harlot Daughters of Protestantism which shows that protestant churches have failed to fully come out of the false traditions of Catholicism in the Protestant Reformation in the 16th century. We also know from my page Paganism In The Church and All Roads Lead To... Ancient Babylon that Roman Catholicism is the entity through which the Babylonian mystery religion, also known as paganism, has carried on down to our current day.

This is what God calls us to come out of. It is all the false customs and traditions of pagan Christianity and other forms of false religion. Judgment is coming for those that remain in these false religious systems when Christ returns. But understand, God's people are in many various denominations within Protestantism and other various false religious systems, because after all, if they weren't they wouldn't have to be called out of it. So you may be asking yourself: "God wants me not to go to church? That doesn't seem right or feel right." I struggled with this very idea for a while myself. But let's understand that the church spoken of in the scriptures isn't a reference to religious organizations comprised within various buildings. The Greek word that comes from "church" is "ecclesia," which means "called out ones." So the church is God's people that he has called out to be separate from the world, not an organization or building. The apostle Paul even had a similar call to the Corinthian people.

Therefore, “Come out from them and be separate, says the Lord. Touch no unclean thing, and I will receive you.” And, “I will be a Father to you, and you will be my sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty.” Therefore, since we have these promises, dear friends, let us purify ourselves from everything that contaminates body and spirit, perfecting holiness out of reverence for God. 2 Cor. 6:17-18; 2 Cor. 7:1

The New Testament Temple

The Israelites were referred to as the church in the wilderness in Acts 7:38 because they were called out to be separate from the nations around them. The structure in which God dwelt was called the tabernacle. Later a structure was built called the temple in which God dwelt. But God's people desecrated the temple over and over. So God destroyed his temple from among them. God rebuilt the temple again only for the same thing to happen all over again. So the second temple was destroyed as well. So now that there is no physical temple in which God dwells, where does God dwell today?

“However, the Most High does not live in houses made by human hands. As the prophet says: “ ‘Heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool. What kind of house will you build for me? says the Lord. Or where will my resting place be? Acts 7:48-49

“The God who made the world and everything in it is the Lord of heaven and earth and does not live in temples built by human hands. Acts 17:24

For we are co-workers in God’s service; you are God’s field, God’s building. 1 Cor. 3:9

Don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in your midst? If anyone destroys God’s temple, God will destroy that person; for God’s temple is sacred, and you together are that temple. 1 Cor. 3:16-17

What agreement is there between the temple of God and idols? For we are the temple of the living God. As God has said: “I will live with them and walk among them, and I will be their God, and they will be my people.” 2 Cor. 6:16

Not Forsaking The Assembly

And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works: Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching. Heb. 10:24-25

Many will claim that this means we must choose an established denomination and attend its meetings called "church." But as we've seen, God's people are the church and our bodies are God's temple in which he dwells. We have also seen that God is calling his people out of false religion and to strive for the faith once delivered to the saints. Yes, we should absolutely assemble ourselves together and exhort one another, but we are to do this in spirit and in truth. The 1st century church met in their homes. Obviously only so many people can meet within a home. The truth in which we are to live was never said to be so wide spread that we could afford such grand buildings to maintain. This is a poor use of resources. These resources were to go toward helping our brethren among us. We were never meant to be cooped up in a building, but were instead meant to go out and spread the gospel and be a light to the world around us. Small home group Bible studies is a much closer reflection of the 1st century church than grand mega churches.

The Spiritual Box Of Denominationalism

Denominationalism keeps us in a spiritual box and doesn't allow us to grow to maturity as Christians. It keeps up as spiritual babies weened from milk and unable to eat meat. Denominationalism limits a Christians understanding because it gives us man's predetermined doctrinal boxes. We choose which box, or denomination, we want to be apart of and adhere to its predetermined doctrines. There is very little tolerance for debate and hard questioning of these doctrines. They are what they are for the most part. You can forget about changing the view of an entire congregation without causing massive division and breaking up the church. This can not be allowed to happen because often times the bills have to get paid for their lavish buildings and many programs. So unity triumphs over truth because of this. Truth gets a lower priority than God established for it.

The majority of the congregation, which has been Christian for a long time, continue to get fed spiritual milk. They must sit in the pews each week only to hear a variation of the same sermons they have heard many times already. The sermons are catered to a mass audience and dumbed down to the lowest level of understanding. The church becomes more of a social club rather than a place for spiritual renewal and growth. Don't get me wrong, fellowship is important, but "church" must be much more than that.

Personally, my spiritual growth exploded when I left denominational Christianity. My eyes were opened for the first time to other doctrines that I had never before even heard of. My understanding was very limited. I was not trained in apologetics or in how to defend my beliefs. I discovered other denominations that had bits of their own truth, yet they too were in their own denominational box. Denominationalism is man made religion and led by man. Coming out of that will allow you to freely be led by God and his Holy Spirit. It will allow the Holy Spirit to teach you personally as God's designed purpose has always been without the constraints of your spiritual box. You can approach doctrines without bias for the first time.

Conclusion

So ultimately the choice is ours. We can follow man's religion in denominational mainstream Christianity or we can follow God by his written word and come out of all of these false customs and traditions. God is calling us out, we need to trust God that he will lead us and guide us. I assure you that God will do just that and your spiritual growth will explode like you have never experienced before. The guidance of the Holy Spirit will become more real and practical in your everyday life. This is where God wants his people. It is at this point when God can work in your life at a rapid speed because you are walking in obedience. God will do amazing things in your life if you let him.
