Only "Begotten" Son?

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. John 3:16 (Most other translations leave out the important word “begotten” and change the meaning of the verse to say “God’s only Son” or “one and only Son.” This is a false translation. Jesus is not the only Son of God, but he is the only begotten Son of God. Christians will be adopted sons and daughters of God. At conversion we are spiritually begotten of God and a new creation. We are to grow spiritually in this life just as a begotten fetus grows in its mother’s womb. At the resurrection, we are born again of the spirit just as the fetus is physically born of the flesh at birth.)

And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth. John 1:14

No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him. John 1:18

What does this mean to be the only begotten son of God? The goal of this page is to have a deeper understanding of who Jesus is. Because of tradition, many will consider this page to be heresy. But my aim is to cast off the influence of traditions and simply look at what God's word says about this subject. Some people say that Jesus was a created being. I reject this notion. Most people say that Jesus is an eternal being. I accept this as true. Most people say that Jesus is a self existent being. This is the part that I reject. God the Father is self existent, but Jesus is begotten of the Father. To be begotten is different than being created, made, or self existent. Please consider my studies on this matter...

"Begotten" Different Than "Created"

Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear. Hebrews 11:3 (God created the heavens, earth, angels, plants, trees, animals, man, woman, and everything else. All that was created came from nothing that pre-existed. To be begotten means the opposite of created, you must come from an already existing source. Jesus was the only begotten Son of God. Jesus came from the already existing source of the eternal Father God.)

By the word of the Lord were the heavens made; And all the host of them by the breath of his mouth. He gathereth the waters of the sea together as an heap: He layeth up the depth in storehouses. Let all the earth fear the Lord: Let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of him. For he spake, and it was done; He commanded, and it stood fast. Psalm 33:6-9 (The creation was spoken into existence. Nothing pre-exiting was used to create the world. Jesus did NOT come into being in this manner. And that is the difference between "created" and "begotten.")

The Origin Of Jesus

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. John 1:1-3 (Jesus was the Word and the creator. “In the beginning” of what? Since God the Father has no beginning, he existed from eternity. Jesus at minimum existed before the beginning of creation, since he was the creator. But did he also exist from eternity like God the Father?)

Unto the woman he said, I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception; in sorrow thou shalt bring forth children; and thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee. Gen. 3:16 (The Hebrew word for “bring forth” is the same used for “beget.” So children are not created, but begotten of their parents. Jesus was not a created being, but he was begotten of Father God.)

Jesus said unto them, If God were your Father, ye would love me: for I proceeded forth and came from God; neither came I of myself, but he sent me. John 8:42 (Jesus proceeded forth from and came from God.)

Yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; Whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting. Micah 5:2 (Jesus came from God. And this happened “from of old, from everlasting.” Jesus was the creator of all things, so this happened at some point before the creation. But if Jesus came out of the Father, he must not have always existed. Although once he was begotten of the eternal Father, the Son was eternal also because Jesus shares the same nature as his Father.)

Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature: Col. 1:15 (Christ is the firstborn of every creature. How plain is that? This occurred before the creation of all things because Christ was the creator. Just as we are born in the image of our parents, we will also bear the image of the heavenly at the resurrection just as Christ did. Christ was begotton of the Father. The Father was begotten of nobody.)

And unto the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write; These things saith the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation of God; Rev. 3:14 (God began his creation by first begetting a son who would then create all things for his glory.)

Being made so much better than the angels, as he hath by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they. Heb. 1:4 (Being "made" could refer to being created or begotten. Jesus was clearly begotten, not created by God the Father. Jesus is eternal, but was brought forth and has not always existed like God the Father.)

The Wisdom Of God

“The Lord brought me forth as the first of his works, before his deeds of old; I was appointed from eternity, from the beginning, before the world began. When there were no oceans, I was given birth, when there were no springs abounding with water; before the mountains were settled in place, before the hills, I was given birth, before he made the earth or its fields or any of the dust of the world. I was there when he set the heavens in place, when he marked out the horizon on the face of the deep, when he established the clouds above and fixed securely the fountains of the deep, when he gave the sea its boundary so the waters would not overstep his command, and when he marked out the foundations of the earth. Then I was the craftsman at his side. I was filled with delight day after day, rejoicing always in his presence, rejoicing in his whole world and delighting in mankind. “Now then, my sons, listen to me; blessed are those who keep my ways. Listen to my instruction and be wise; do not ignore it. Blessed is the man who listens to me, watching daily at my doors, waiting at my doorway. For whoever finds me finds life and receives favor from the Lord. But whoever fails to find me harms himself; all who hate me love death.” Prov. 8:22-36 (These verses speak of a personified Wisdom. It is shown that this personified wisdom is Jesus.)

But wisdom is justified of all her children. Luke 7:35 (Jesus is here referred to as "wisdom.")

But unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God… But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption: 1 Cor. 1:24,30

But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, even the hidden wisdom, which God ordained before the world unto our glory: Which none of the princes of this world knew: for had they known it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory. 1 Cor. 2:7-8

That their hearts might be comforted, being knit together in love, and unto all riches of the full assurance of understanding, to the acknowledgement of the mystery of God, and of the Father, and of Christ; In whom are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. Col. 2:2-3

Therefore also said the wisdom of God, I will send them prophets and apostles, and some of them they shall slay and persecute: That the blood of all the prophets, which was shed from the foundation of the world, may be required of this generation; From the blood of Abel unto the blood of Zacharias, which perished between the altar and the temple: verily I say unto you, It shall be required of this generation. Luke 11:49-51
