Giants In The Bible

Again there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan came also among them to present himself before the LORD. Job 2:1 (The sons of God are seen here to be the angels. Why is that important?...)

Where wast thou when I laid the foundations of the earth? declare, if thou hast understanding. Who hath laid the measures thereof, if thou knowest? or who hath stretched the line upon it? Whereupon are the foundations thereof fastened? or who laid the corner stone thereof; When the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy? Job 38:4-7 (Clearly, the sons of God are a reference to the angels. Let see why that is an important point.)

And it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born unto them, That the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair; and they took them wives of all which they chose. And the LORD said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years. There were giants(Nephilim) in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown. And GOD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. Gen. 6:1-5 (We see here that there were angels that procreated with human women. The result of this unholy mixture was an offspring of giants that were called Nephilim. These giants were very wicked. The result of this was God having to destroy the earth by the flood and imprison these fallen angels that rebelled against God.)

And the angels which kept not their first estate, but left their own habitation, he hath reserved in everlasting chains under darkness unto the judgment of the great day. Jude 1:6 (Further evidence exists that these angels left their assigned habitation and estate. And Gen. 6 tells us what they did. We also see that these angels were bound until the judgement.)

Angels Can Appear As Humans

Do not forget to show hospitality to strangers, for by so doing some people have shown hospitality to angels without knowing it. Heb. 13:2 (This verse reveals that people can perceive that they are dealing with regular people when they are in fact angels. So angels are capable and often times do reveal themselves in the world as regular people. We should also note, that this also means that fallen angels are capable of doing the same.)

Read all of Genesis 18 and Genesis 19:1-25. The Lord and two angels appear to Abraham in the form of 3 human men. Abraham offers them food and they ate as regular men. In chapter 19 two of the men are specifically described as angels. The men of Sodom believed that these angels were men because they sought to have sex with them. So it is now more understandable how these fallen angels of Gen. 6 were able to procreate with the human kind.

Imprisonment Of The Fallen Angels

For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit: By which also he went and preached unto the spirits in prison; Which sometime were disobedient, when once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by water. 1 Pet. 3:18-20 (These "spirits" were the fallen angels, or sons of God, that were disobedient in Gen. 6, Jude 1, and Rev. 12. They are said to be in prison and this all occurred in the days of Noah. Is there a biblical account of this event? Yes...)

Son of man, speak unto Pharaoh king of Egypt, and to his multitude; Whom art thou like in thy greatness? Behold, the Assyrian(box tree) was a cedar in Lebanon with fair branches, and with a shadowing shroud, and of an high stature; and his top was among the thick boughs. The waters made him great, the deep set him up on high with her rivers running round about his plants, and sent out her little rivers unto all the trees of the field. Therefore his height was exalted above all the trees of the field, and his boughs were multiplied, and his branches became long because of the multitude of waters, when he shot forth. All the fowls of heaven made their nests in his boughs, and under his branches did all the beasts of the field bring forth their young, and under his shadow dwelt all great nations. Thus was he fair in his greatness, in the length of his branches: for his root was by great waters. The cedars in the garden of God could not hide him: the fir trees were not like his boughs, and the chesnut trees were not like his branches; nor any tree in the garden of God was like unto him in his beauty. I have made him fair by the multitude of his branches: so that all the trees of Eden, that were in the garden of God, envied him. Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Because thou hast lifted up thyself in height, and he hath shot up his top among the thick boughs, and his heart is lifted up in his height; I have therefore delivered him into the hand of the mighty one of the heathen; he shall surely deal with him: I have driven him out for his wickedness. And strangers, the terrible of the nations, have cut him off, and have left him: upon the mountains and in all the valleys his branches are fallen, and his boughs are broken by all the rivers of the land; and all the people of the earth are gone down from his shadow, and have left him. Upon his ruin shall all the fowls of the heaven remain, and all the beasts of the field shall be upon his branches: To the end that none of all the trees by the waters exalt themselves for their height, neither shoot up their top among the thick boughs, neither their trees stand up in their height, all that drink water: for they are all delivered unto death, to the nether parts of the earth, in the midst of the children of men, with them that go down to the pit. Thus saith the Lord GOD; In the day when he went down to the grave I caused a mourning: I covered the deep for him, and I restrained the floods thereof, and the great waters were stayed: and I caused Lebanon to mourn for him, and all the trees of the field fainted for him. I made the nations to shake at the sound of his fall, when I cast him down to hell with them that descend into the pit: and all the trees of Eden, the choice and best of Lebanon, all that drink water, shall be comforted in the nether parts of the earth. They also went down into hell with him unto them that be slain with the sword; and they that were his arm, that dwelt under his shadow in the midst of the heathen. To whom art thou thus like in glory and in greatness among the trees of Eden? yet shalt thou be brought down with the trees of Eden unto the nether parts of the earth: thou shalt lie in the midst of the uncircumcised with them that be slain by the sword. This is Pharaoh and all his multitude, saith the Lord GOD. Ezek. 31:2-18 (Understand that a tree can represent a human being or angelic being. The Pharaoh was likened to a being that was in the Garden of Eden. This being was greater than all the others in Eden.)

Why Did God Order The Death Of Women And Children?

“Set out now and cross the Arnon Gorge. See, I have given into your hand Sihon the Amorite, king of Heshbon, and his country. Begin to take possession of it and engage him in battle...
...At that time we took all his towns and completely destroyed them—men, women and children. We left no survivors. Deut. 2:24,34 (These were the Amorites who were a tribe of giants. God is ordering the death of women and children here because they are giants that carry genes of a hybrid demonic race. How do we know that Amorites were giants?...)

“Yet I destroyed the Amorites before them, though they were tall as the cedars and strong as the oaksI destroyed their fruit above and their roots below. I brought you up out of Egypt and led you forty years in the wilderness to give you the land of the Amorites. Amos 2:9-10 (This seems to be sufficient evidence that the Amorites were giants. But there is more...)

“We went into the land to which you sent us, and it does flow with milk and honey! Here is its fruit. But the people who live there are powerful, and the cities are fortified and very large. We even saw descendants of Anak there. The Amalekites live in the Negev; the Hittites, Jebusites and Amorites live in the hill country; and the Canaanites live near the sea and along the Jordan.” Then Caleb silenced the people before Moses and said, “We should go up and take possession of the land, for we can certainly do it.” But the men that went up with him said, We be not able to go up against the people; for they are stronger than we. And they brought up an evil report of the land which they had searched unto the children of Israel, saying, The land, through which we have gone to search it, is a land that eateth up the inhabitants thereof; and all the people that we saw in it are men of a great stature. And there we saw the giants(Nephilim), the sons of Anak, which come of the giants(Nephilim): and we were in our own sight as grasshoppers, and so we were in their sight. Num. 13:31-33 (The Amorites were apart of these giants that made the Israelites seem as grasshoppers in their own site. So God was indeed killing off a hybrid demonic race of giants in Deut. 2 when he ordered the death of women and children.)

That night all the members of the community raised their voices and wept aloud. All the Israelites grumbled against Moses and Aaron, and the whole assembly said to them, “If only we had died in Egypt! Or in this wilderness! Why is the Lord bringing us to this land only to let us fall by the sword? Our wives and children will be taken as plunder. Wouldn’t it be better for us to go back to Egypt?” And they said to each other, “We should choose a leader and go back to Egypt.” Num. 14:1-4 (It's always easy to fault the Israelite's lack of faith, but let's keep in perspective what they were up against. There enemies were no ordinary men, but giants that made them appear as grasshoppers in comparison.)

We completely destroyed them, as we had done with Sihon king of Heshbon, destroying every city—men, women and children. Deut. 3:6 (These women and children that God ordered the death of were offspring of the giants as shown in the following verses...)

Og king of Bashan was the last of the Rephaites. His bed was decorated with iron and was more than nine cubits long and four cubits wide. Deut. 3:11

The rest of Gilead and also all of Bashan, the kingdom of Og, I gave to the half-tribe of Manasseh. The whole region of Argob in Bashan used to be known as a land of the Rephaites. Deut. 3:13 (Bashan was known as a land of the giants. In which King Og's bed is said to be 13.5 feet long.)

However, in the cities of the nations the Lord your God is giving you as an inheritance, do not leave alive anything that breathes. Completely destroy them—the Hittites, Amorites, Canaanites, Perizzites, Hivites and Jebusites—as the Lord your God has commanded you. Otherwise, they will teach you to follow all the detestable things they do in worshiping their gods, and you will sin against the Lord your God. Deut. 20:16-18 (These are all tribes of giants. 4 of them are specifically mentioned in Num. 13.)

This is what the Lord Almighty says: ‘I will punish the Amalekites for what they did to Israel when they waylaid them as they came up from Egypt. Now go, attack the Amalekites and totally destroy all that belongs to them. Do not spare them; put to death men and women, children and infants, cattle and sheep, camels and donkeys.’ ” 1 Sam. 15:2-3 (The Amalekites were a tribe of giants. God demanded the death of women, children, and infants because they carried the gene pool of this hybrid demonic race. The word Amalek means giants and they are specifically mentioned in Num. 13 as well.)

Goliath The Giant

No Anakites were left in Israelite territory; only in Gaza, Gath and Ashdod did any survive. Joshua 11:22 (Anakites were giants, and one of the places in which they survived was in Gath.)

A champion named Goliath, who was from Gath, came out of the Philistine camp. His height was six cubits and a span. 1 Sam. 17:4 (Goliath was from Gath and he was over 9 feet tall. Was he a Giant?)

Once again there was a battle between the Philistines and Israel. David went down with his men to fight against the Philistines, and he became exhausted. And Ishbi-Benob, one of the descendants of Rapha, whose bronze spearhead weighed three hundred shekels and who was armed with a new sword, said he would kill David. But Abishai son of Zeruiah came to David’s rescue; he struck the Philistine down and killed him. Then David’s men swore to him, saying, “Never again will you go out with us to battle, so that the lamp of Israel will not be extinguished.” In the course of time, there was another battle with the Philistines, at Gob. At that time Sibbekai the Hushathite killed Saph, one of the descendants of Rapha. In another battle with the Philistines at Gob, Elhanan son of Jair the Bethlehemite killed the brother of Goliath the Gittite, who had a spear with a shaft like a weaver’s rod. In still another battle, which took place at Gath, there was a huge man with six fingers on each hand and six toes on each foot—twenty-four in all. He also was descended from Rapha. When he taunted Israel, Jonathan son of Shimeah, David’s brother, killed him. These four were descendants of Rapha in Gath, and they fell at the hands of David and his men. 2 Sam. 21:15-22 (1 Chron. 20:4-8 also gives a second account to this same story. David and his men were fighting giants, as they were Rephaites. One of them had 6 fingers and toes. These giants were Philistines from Gath just like Goliath was from Gath. One of them was even Goliath's brother. And if Goliath's brother was a giant then that means Goliath was a giant.)

Other Giants

The Emites used to live there—a people
strong and numerous, and as tall as the AnakitesLike the Anakites, they too were considered Rephaites, but the Moabites called them Emites...
...When you come to the Ammonites, do not harass them or provoke them to war, for I will not give you possession of any land belonging to the Ammonites. I have given it as a possession to the descendants of Lot.” That too was considered a land of the Rephaites, who used to live there; but the Ammonites called them Zamzummites. They were a people strong and numerous, and as tall as the Anakites. The Lord destroyed them from before the Ammonites, who drove them out and settled in their place. Deut. 2:10-11;19-21 (Anakites, Emites, and Zamzummites were considered Rephaites, also called Nephilim or giants.)

Benaiah son of Jehoiada, a valiant fighter from Kabzeel, performed great exploits. He struck down Moab’s two mightiest warriors. He also went down into a pit on a snowy day and killed a lion. And he struck down an Egyptian who was five cubits tall. Although the Egyptian had a spear like a weaver’s rod in his hand, Benaiah went against him with a club. He snatched the spear from the Egyptian’s hand and killed him with his own spear. 1 Chron. 11:22-23 (This Egyptian was approximately 7 and a half feet tall. Although he isn't referred to as a giant. So does that give us any indication of the size of the giants? Perhaps 7 and a half feet tall doesn't qualify?)

But you were unwilling to go up; you rebelled against the command of the Lord your God. You grumbled in your tents and said, “The Lord hates us; so he brought us out of Egypt to deliver us into the hands of the Amorites to destroy us. Where can we go? Our brothers have made our hearts melt in fear. They say, ‘The people are stronger and taller than we are; the cities are large, with walls up to the sky. We even saw the Anakites there.’ ” Deut. 1:26-28

And the territory of Og king of Bashan, one of the last of the Rephaites, who reigned in Ashtaroth and Edrei. Joshua 12:4

The Curse Of Canaan And The Post-Flood Giants

And Noah began to be an husbandman, and he planted a vineyard: And he drank of the wine, and was drunken; and he was uncovered within his tent. And Ham, the father of Canaan, saw the nakedness of his father, and told his two brethren without. And Shem and Japheth took a garment, and laid it upon both their shoulders, and went backward, and covered the nakedness of their father; and their faces were backward, and they saw not their father's nakedness. And Noah awoke from his wine, and knew what his younger son had done unto him. And he said, Cursed be Canaan; a servant of servants shall he be unto his brethren. Gen. 9:20-25 (This account obviously leaves out some much needed details to understand what happened that was so serious to cause Noah to curse Ham's son Canaan. Did Ham simply witness the nakedness of his father? Maybe, but why curse Ham's son Canaan? Did Ham sodomize his father? Maybe, but again, why curse his son Canaan? Did Ham castrate his father? Maybe, but again, why curse his son Canaan? What does it mean that Ham "saw the nakedness of his father?")

And the man that lieth with his father's wife hath uncovered his father's nakedness: Lev. 20:11 (This verse suggests that this phrase is in reference to incest with your father's wife. So did Ham commit incest with Noah's wife? Again, maybe, but this theory also seems to support the idea that Canaan was cursed because he was the offspring born out of this incestuous act.)

The sons of Noah: Shem, Ham and Japheth. 1 Chron. 1:4
The sons of Ham: Cush, Egypt, Put and Canaan. 1 Chron. 1:8
Canaan was the father of Sidon his firstborn, and of the Hittites, Jebusites, Amorites, Girgashites, Hivites, Arkites, Sinites, Arvadites, Zemarites and Hamathites. 1 Chron. 1:13-16 (It is interesting that out of Ham's lineage, through his son Canaan, we see some of the very same giant tribes mentioned in Numbers 13 that inhabited the promise land before the Israelites destroyed them. Did the incestuous act cause a rebirth of the giant race? Did Noah's wife have anything to do with these giants appearing after the flood? Who was Noah's wife?)

The point is that we can debate and speculate somewhat on HOW the giants survived the flood, but one thing that is certain is that they did indeed survive the flood. We see these giant races in the promise land that the Israelites were given by God. And these giants descended from Ham and primarily through his son Canaan who received the curse from Noah. Now let's move to the next page and see where these giants, who were Canaanites, fit in with the seed-line of the sons of Cain.
